The Chaabi Habibi project is led in Belgium by Belgian-Moroccan musician Laïla Amezian and the non-profit association HalfmOon, together a.o. with members of the group B'net Chaabi. The project explores the popular repertoires of Morocco carried by the women of the diaspora in Belgium, through a wide range of activities.
Several dates are planned until autumn 2023 in Liège!
21 June | Music Festival “Fête de la musique” in Droixhe
Musical activities in the tradition of Dakka Simo & Chaimae and concert by the group B'net Chaabi.
In the purest tradition of dakka marrakchiya, the musicians of the band will make you dance and shiver to the rhythms and songs that are found in the processions accompanying celebrations.
Members of B'net Chaabi are driven by a desire to perpetuate the musical tradition inherited from their elders, in Belgium. Accompanied by a keyboard and percussion, they will share their passion for these melodies with you all and transmit the bewitching energy of these rhythms passed on from generation to generation all the way to reach us!
September - October | Tranced Choir
4 workshops of traditional songs from northern Morocco, the results of which will be presented with the Fanfare du Nord (Northern Brass band) during Chaabi Transe Express (Chaabi Trance Express). Open to everyone, and without any prerequisites: come as you are!
14 October | Chaabi Transe Express (Chaabi Trance Express)
Dedicated to the Chaabi musical heritage of Morocco, Chaabi Transe Express (Chaabi Trance Express) honours the practice of this music by women. We invite you to an extraordinary event and a unique experience in Liège: for one day, the Manège Fonck will be entirely dedicated to the Chaabi musical heritage of Morocco. Animations of all kinds, theatrical and musical performances will follow one another in a multisensorial atmosphere to delight your taste buds, ears and eyes!
